BIOGRAPHY
YURI GORBACHEV (*1948) comes from the Russian village of Uglovka. He studied philosophy at Leningrad State University and painting and printmaking in Odessa. He moved to New York in 1991. Gorbachev has held a large number of exhibitions in Russia, the United States, Asia and Europe. His paintings radiate with a profound respect for Russian religious and folk art traditions. Deep, intense colours, large fields of gold and a naïve view of the object reflect something of the extensiveness, depth and mystique of the Russian soul. In 2001 he was awarded the Masaryk Academy of Art Prize.
