BIOGRAPHY
Josef Mařatka (1874 – 1937)was a famous Czech sculptor. At the beginning of his career he responded to the beginnings of the Expressionist movement. After his brief work in a studio of Auguste Rodin, he started to be interested at Symbolism and Art Nouveau. Subsequently, he was strongly influenced by Bourdelle, to whom he also organized an exhibition in Prague. After the war, his work followed the Myslbek’s tradition, marginally also combining Neoclassicism with a bit of early Socialist Realism.
